Green Roof Drainage Board

While lush greenery and blooming flowers might catch the eye, the drainage layer is the unsung hero of the green roof. This layer ensures that the green roof system can capture and store water during a storm, while decreasing the volume of stormwater running into storm drains.

The drainage layer typically consists of two components. First, a separation layer and then the granular drainage/storage mat.

HDPE

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a type of recycled plastic that can be used in a variety of outdoor products. It is a durable and safe material that resists salt spray, oil, moisture, fading, insects, graffiti, splinting and warping. It is also resistant to many chemicals. It is ideal for use in waste and recycling receptacles, marine products, drain pipe, food preparation products and outdoor signage.

Its uses include green roof drainage boards, nonwoven geotextiles, and root Green roof drainage board holder foil. Its great compressive strength makes it a good choice for the protection layer over the waterproof membrane of the green roof. It also helps the plants retain water.

This type of plastic is commonly found in milk jugs, detergent bottles, shampoo and conditioner bottles, some margarine and yogurt tubs, and empty motor oil, antifreeze, and other vehicle and equipment fluid containers. It is labeled with a recycle number 2 and may be natural or colored. It is often made from type 2 post-consumer plastics and is recyclable at the end of its lifecycle.

Nonwoven geotextile

A nonwoven geotextile is a durable landscape fabric that can increase soil stabilization and ground support. It is available in different weights and thicknesses to suit various applications. Heavyweight nonwovens are ideal for separating sand under volleyball courts or preventing the mixing of ballast and soil under railroad tracks. Most pre-vegetated blankets are shipped in trays, which can be easily transported by truck or rail. The trays should be kept in a temperature-controlled environment to prevent overheating during transit. Ideally, the trays should be shipped in a semi- or flatbed truck with tarping. This will ensure that the trays aren’t damaged during transport.
